Passover Us

Thai New Year and the Festivals of Passover, Unleaven Bread and Easter in the western countries coincide this year. What a celebration!!
The family is small, by comparison to normal around here. Many students have gone to visit their families. Some of the older ones are together working in Bangkok. Such was last week. We looked at the bible text about the Passover in Exodus 12. So we created our door post bloody memories of Jesus sacrifice. We watch the movie over breakfast…. The Passion of Christ. Then we prepared for the feast…. Taking up marinated fish, guten steaks and salads for a barbeque on the lakeshore. Apart from the lone race of a water snake with the kids stoning him, the night was tranquil. A star lit night of peace.
The morning we did the clean out of cupboards… from yeast, it was entertaining and educational…. Out went the chicken broth flavoring (YEAST), out went the cookies with raising in them…. We ate a lot!, then out went my precious marmite (Oh dear, a years supply) The local people asked a lot of questions as to why we did such a wasteful thing…. We gave the products to local people, so the kids gave bible texts to support the reasoning. It took them all afternoon to explain enough. A great way to open the thoughts of non Christians. And then started the baking of unleavened products…. Crepes, coconut short breads (no butter so we used coconut oil) and rice wafers.. New recipes created.
The highlight was the footwashing and eating the feast together, directly from John 13. The kids were all a part of the occasion. It was especially fun as we discovered the tickly feet of Arthur and Ice Creana. The grape juice was sweet, the "bread" chewy…. So much so that Holly hid half of hers in her pocket.
I am sure God understood all the giggles, the tears shed and the mistaken pictures and signs above the doors. All to His glory. Some of these things were new to us, but we all drew closer to God and now understand the Bible better as a result.
We also gained another child. Muwai had been to play football for the Bong Ti Lung team. (They drew the match so had to play again the next day). So he noticed a small boy laying in the same place on two consecutive days. He lay on wet concrete, shivering and vomiting. His friends told Muwai that he could not eat, and had tummy ache. Darling Muwai brought him in the pouring rain to Momo. He was rehydrated at the hospital, and thus we have a thin beaming face around here. His name is Errol, pronounced Eh-Roll.
His parents are split. The mother, who has a large goiter on her neck, is living in a refugee camp some 200+ km. north of us. He had not seen her for 2 years. His father has gone to work, away for the past 4 months. Normally he has eaten at School at lunchtime each day to survive, but now is school holidays, so no food. His baby brother is staying with his aunt, who has only enough for the one little one. Errol is just 9 years old, taking care of himself for 4 months. Thus one more.
We are being inundated with requests of parent to take care of their 16 + year olds who eat too much and are lazy! How to know which are really hungry and which are in need. Please pray for wisdom to abound. I cannot take then all, unless we build more rooms.
God is selecting and refining each of us. God is good all the time
